Travel Well, Feel Well
With warm days on the horizon—bank holidays, half terms, and summer holidays—there’s no better time to talk travel. That’s one of my favourite things!
But let’s be honest: travel means early mornings, missed routines, questionable airport and plane food, and, of course, jet lag if you cross time zones. You’re excited for your getaway or some much-needed rest, but then the reality of the journey hits.
From my own health journey and lots of travel practice, I’ve learned a few tricks to make it easier.
Coaching Tip:
Feel-Good Travel Checklist
🎒 Packing Essentials
If you’ve traveled with me, you know I have my essentials. Here’s what I always pack:
Snacks like raw nuts, cooked veggies, fruits, or boiled eggs
Raw cut ginger — it helps with digestion, as well as motion sickness. Bananas are also another great helper for motion sickness
Electrolytes, like Himalayan or sea salt, to ease headaches and thirst during travel
Tiger balm or an essential oil roller — great for grounding, easing motion sickness
🛫 In Transit
Nourish Before You Fly – If airplane food isn’t your thing, you’re not alone. I usually prefer to have a proper meal before flying or a filling snack, then eat after I land. It’s my way of making sure I feel well-nourished and comfortable throughout the journey.
Stretch when you can – especially on long-haul flights. It helps circulation and eases stiffness.
Skip alcohol until you’re settled in at your destination — your body is likely dehydrated and under stress from early travel and transit.
Adjust to local time gently – if you’re crossing time zones, yes — do aim to shift into the local rhythm, but never force it. Your body will catch up in its own time.
Take ashwagandha – ideally starting a week before travel. It supports blood sugar balance and may help reduce jet lag.
Jet lag is still real – despite years of flying, I haven’t cracked the code. But these small habits make the ride easier and the arrival smoother.
📍 Upon Arrival
Add green veggies to your meals to support digestion — travel often disrupts our natural rhythm.
Tackle constipation naturally with Epsom salt or Senna leaves if needed. Prune juice or papaya fruits are great remedies too.
Check water safety — in some places, bottled mineral water is best; in others, tap water comes from clean natural sources.
Keep moving — if you have a workout routine, mix it up! Try a beach run, long walk, hike, or get lost exploring the new destination. Every bit of movement counts. Bon Voyage!
